Gippsland Water Dragons

Distribution: Gippsland Water Dragons inhabit a small pocket of Eastern Victoria, in the area of Gippsland; however have been found in some parts of Central Victoria.

Appearance: Gippsland Water Dragons lack the distinctive bright black line that runs horizontally from the edge of the eye to the head in the Eastern Water Dragon and have a tendency to have more of an olive colouration to their bodies .

Temperament: Gippsland Water Dragons are far more likely to become docile animals, and in a few instances have become unwary of handling, however this needs to begin as a Hatchling.

Feeding: Adult Water Dragons should be offered insects 2-3 times per week, with fresh fruit and vegetables available daily, Juvenile – Sub Adult Water Dragons should be offered insects every 1 - 2 days and fresh fruit and vegetables offered daily and Hatchling Water Dragons should be offered insects 2 – 3 times per day and again fresh fruit offered daily. Insects and food should be dusted with calcium every second feed for Hatchlings - Juveniles - Sub Adults - Adults. Don’t be put off if you rarely see your Water Dragon eat, at times they can be shy eaters.

Lifespan: Water Dragons can live from 10 – 20 Years, with few surpassing this

Cost: The cost of a Water Dragon Hatchling ranges from $70 - $150 and Adults from $150 - $400; price varies on size, colouration and sex.

Recommended For: Anyone looking for something interactive and that doesn’t have much space.
